The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. In East and Southern Africa, UNV works with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UNV into development programming and promote the value and overall recognition of volunteerism.
UNV’s vision is to create a world where volunteerism is recognised and valued within societies as a way for all people and countries to achieve peace and development. Volunteers make a difference to the communities where they are assigned by being helping hands as well as being active models of change.
In February 2020, UNV East and Southern Africa partnered with Future by Design Studio to reposition the UNV regional visual identity to ensure consistent and regionally adaptable communications. The brand strategy promotes the regional context of East and Southern Africa while maintaining consistency with the global brand.
The brand strategy profiles regional volunteers as champions and catalysts of change, raising awareness among the targeted audiences on the value of promoting more volunteer opportunities, and recruiting more volunteers across the region.
The brand is built around four main shapes, presented in the UNV East and Southern Africa main colours. These shapes celebrate the geographical and cultural diversity of East and Southern Africa while placing volunteers at its centre.
Visual identity guideline provides guidance to UNV offices in the East and Southern Africa region, on how to implement the redesigned identity. By applying these guidelines to their communications strategy, UNV regional outreach to targeted audiences will be recognised as memorable, compelling and empowering.
