THE CHALLENGE
The GCF wanted to enhance its brand and communicate through multiple channels that the second replenishment was underway. Through fresh, hopeful, intelligent design, and by sharing the good work the fund has achieved so far, the GCF aimed to raise more funds than ever before with the culmination of effort being their pledging conference in Bonn, Germany.

Overall creative direction, campaign branding, and identity of the second replenishment. Roll-out of digital assets and conference design elements.

The Green Climate Fund was established just over a decade ago as a way to support developing countries in becoming more climate resilient. Today it’s the world’s largest climate-dedicated fund with projects underway across the globe.

The world is facing multiple crises - not only are many countries battling inflation, energy insecurity, and recessions, but climate change and extreme weather events are exacerbating their impact on millions of people's lives. More than ever, urgent action is required to assist countries in becoming more climate resilient.

After the Green Climate Funds’ first replenishment, the organization channeled much-needed climate finance to developing countries. $12.7 billion in GCF resources was committed to climate projects.

When it came time for a second replenishment starting in June 2022, the Green Climate Fund, with new Executive Director Mafalda Duarte at the helm, called for even more investment to continue and grow that important work. At The UN General Assembly, Duarte unveiled the ’50 by 30’ reform blueprint which aims to have $50 billion GCF capitalization by 2030- thus enabling more climate action in vulnerable countries.

At the Future by Design studio, we are proud to have worked with the Green Climate Fund over the 18-month period of the 2nd Replenishment culminating in the High-level Pledging Conference in Bonn, Germany in October 2023. The GCF turned to our creative team to develop the second replenishment's creative direction, campaign branding, and identity. This included all branding, social media assets, and animations for the second replenishment drive as well as key branding for the conference. The key message was to ‘Inspire more climate action’ – a positive call to action that asked countries to participate in a fund with innovative solutions to the climate crisis.

Attended by key global players in the sector, the conference and 18-month build-up, was successful in raising $9.3 billion for climate resilience. At Future by Design, we’re proud to have been part of this project.
