UNDP, in collaboration with UN Environment, delivers training in sustainable procurement practices to policymakers and public procurers operating in the health sector. The training delivered in 2016 and 2017 in Ukraine and India focused on understanding potential environmental risks posed by the transportation, packaging, use and disposal of medical products. The training included an in-depth review of good practice in sustainable procurement at both national and regional levels.
Through well-designed training material and report, training participants improved their knowledge of environmental and social impacts of health procurement and gained sound understanding of UNDP and UN Environment sustainable health procurement policies and practices. The experts are now equipped with experience on how to apply sustainable procurement tools, methodologies and international standards and how to develop sustainable procurement criteria.
